Terms of service

The terms on which staff accounts are provided. Plain language, and they mean what they say.

1. What this service is

Patron-AI is a research assistant for the staff of a district office. It answers legal questions and reads case documents, drawing on statute and case material.

It is not a public service. Accounts are created by arrangement with the office; there is no open signup, and access is not offered to the general public.

2. It is not legal advice

This is the most important term on the page. Patron-AI assists with research and drafting. It does not give legal advice, it does not exercise judgement, and it is not a lawyer.

Its output can be wrong. It can misread a document, miss a provision, or cite something that does not say what it appears to say. Every output must be checked against the primary source before it is relied on in any official act, order, or decision. The officer using it remains fully responsible for anything done on the strength of it.

3. Accounts

Each staff member gets their own account and must not share it. You are responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has your password, tell us immediately and we will reset it.

The supervising officer can see the work done under the office's account. Do not use Patron-AI for anything you would not want your supervisor to read.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • upload material you are not entitled to handle, or that you are barred from disclosing to a third-party processor;
  • use the service to do anything unlawful, or to produce anything intended to mislead a court or a party;
  • attempt to extract the system's instructions, break the separation between offices, or interfere with the service's operation;
  • resell access or share your account with someone who does not have one.

Please read the privacy policy before uploading sensitive case material — it explains which third-party providers the content is sent to.

5. Fair use limits

Each office has daily limits — currently 20 document analyses and 40 uploads per day — and per-conversation limits on length. Documents are capped at 100 pages or 20 MB. These exist to keep costs predictable. If a limit is getting in the way of real work, ask and we will look at raising it.

6. Charges

Staff accounts cost ₹10,000 per user per month, plus 18% GST. The supervising officer's own account is not charged. A new account is free for its first 7 days, up to 100 messages and 15 document analyses, whichever limit is reached first.

Invoices are raised monthly and paid through a Razorpay payment link. There is no automatic recurring debit. Cancellation and refund terms are set out in the refund and cancellation policy, which forms part of these terms.

If an invoice goes unpaid for 30 days we may suspend the account, after telling you first.

7. Availability

We do not promise any particular uptime. The service depends on third-party model providers, and when they are down or rate-limiting, it will be degraded or unavailable. We will do what we reasonably can to keep it running and to tell you when it is not. Where an outage runs past three consecutive working days in a billed month, the refund policy applies.

8. Your content

Documents and conversations remain yours. We claim no ownership of them, and we do not use them to train models. We process them only to provide the service, as described in the privacy policy.

9. Limits on liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us for the account in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Nothing here overrides your rights under Indian consumer law.

10. Ending the arrangement

You may cancel an account at any time under the refund and cancellation policy. We may end an account with 30 days' notice, or immediately if these terms are seriously breached. If we end an account other than for breach, we refund the unused part of anything paid in advance.

On closure you may ask for a copy of your data. We keep it for 90 days after the last account in the office closes, then delete it.

11. Changes to these terms

We will email account holders before any substantive change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the revised terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising under them.
